Deployment Season: Embracing Discomfort as a Call to Grow

Discomfort is not always meant to destroy you; sometimes it’s meant to deploy you!

In life, we’re often trained to avoid discomfort, to find security in what’s familiar, and to look for safety in places we know well. But what if the discomfort is a signal, a divine nudge telling us to get ready for a new chapter, a new calling? This kind of season, what I like to call a “deployment season,” challenges us to reframe our struggles. It’s about learning to see our discomfort not as a setback, but as a setup.

I’ll never forget a season in my life where this truth became all too real. There was a door I wanted desperately to stay open. I had prayed over it, invested in it, and shaped so many of my plans around it, confident it was where I was supposed to be. But that door closed. Just like that—sudden, final, and so completely beyond my control. I felt crushed, wrestling with a deep sense of disappointment and the ache of dreams left unfulfilled. It was a time of deep discomfort, where I questioned everything and wondered why God would lead me so close to what seemed like a beautiful path, only to shut it down.

But here’s what I discovered in that season of closed doors: sometimes the discomfort is the very thing that points us toward our deployment. I couldn’t see it at the time, but God was orchestrating something greater. While I was clinging to my own vision, He was preparing me for doors I couldn’t yet imagine. I had to make peace with the disappointment, surrender my own dreams, and trust that He truly had a better plan, even when I couldn’t see it.

And He did. God took the good I was clinging to and traded it for better. He placed me where I was meant to thrive, where I could grow in ways I hadn’t anticipated. Looking back, I see now how He was using that season to refine me, to strengthen me, and to prepare me for a purpose that was far beyond my original plan.

Deployment seasons are not always easy, but they’re essential. They’re the times when God moves us from where we are to where we’re called to be. It takes courage, humility, and a willingness to trust that even in the discomfort, He is working for our good. So if you’re walking through a season where doors are closing or the path feels uncertain, know this: you’re not being destroyed; you’re being deployed. Embrace the discomfort and lean into the unknown, for it’s in these moments that God is preparing you to step into so much more.

This season may be uncomfortable, but it is also rich with potential. Trust in the One who sees the end from the beginning, who trades our best for His better. He’s not just closing doors—He’s redirecting, repositioning, and preparing you for the work He has planned. So let’s allow Him to lead us, even when it means stepping out of our comfort zones. Let’s go where He calls, knowing that when we finally see what He’s been doing, it will all be worth it.
