The God who sees me!

Almost a month ago I decided it was time to unplug from the world and plug into the one who recharges me! I was spending an absurd amount of time with my head in my phone scrolling social to escape the feelings and emotions of the trials I was walking through. I wanted to be numb and social media was the best fix!

Stepping away from social media has been so rewarding. It has allowed me to focus more on contentment in Christ than in the things of this world! We long to be seen and we crave the attention of the World around us but we often forget we are seen every minute by the One who saved us!

In Hebrew the phrase “El Roi” means, the God who sees me, He spends every moment fixated on you because of His abundant love for you. El Roi is one of the many names of God, Hagar, the mother of Abraham’s oldest son, Ishmael gave the Lord this name in Genesis 16:13 after seeing the angel of the Lord who saved her and her unborn child. She was distraught and stressed and the Lord appeared to her to tell her to return to where she had come from and that she was seen and loved!

Stop fighting to be seen, trust me you already are!

The blessing we receive from people can only go so far, we spend so much time longing for those blessings. We don’t realize we have already received the most amazing blessing of all…salvation.

In my search for better, I found the Best! I found The Savior waiting for me! I found The Father ready to listen! I found freedom that was always there!

Pressing pause on social media has allowed the noise to fade and has given me the opportunity to see what other areas in life I need to unplug from because they have become a distraction as well. I question daily if there is anything I fixate on when I should be fixating on Christ.

There are mini masters we allow to control us every hour. These masters are weighing in at a mere six ounces and measuring about six inches by three inches. The thought of us being without these devices terrifies us. We are tethered to them at every moment. We allow them to take up the space in our heads and hearts that we should place God the true Master of our lives in.

Culture has even given a name to the fear of being separated from these devices, Nomophobia. Seriously…

Has scrolling become the first or last thing you do in a day?

Do you escape into a TV show to drown out life?

Are you spending more time hanging out with friends than in your Bible?

If there is something you allow to take up more time in your day than Jesus, if you turn to others before you turn to Christ then perhaps it’s time for you to consider unplugging yourself. I would highly encourage it!
If YES was the answer to any of the questions above take the plunge, allow God an all access pass to your life for a defined period of time and watch how he transforms you! Allow Him to use this time to mend you, cultivate you, and grow you! God prepares us in private on purpose so he can reveal us in public for a purpose! The fruit is found in the preparation!

You were born to make an impact, so make one! You are called to greatness but you best believe greatness comes with a bunch of uncomfortable moments along the way.

We find comfort in the monotony of social media. Sometimes greater means getting uncomfortable! Stepping away from social media is one of the most uncomfortable things I’ve done in a while. At first you feel like you’re missing so much, but God allows us to walk through discomfort to discover where we are at on our walk, where we still need to grow and how much we can take.
